To become a member of the Kensington Congregational Church community is quite simple. As a first step - just come to church. Services are every Sunday Morning at 10am (come rain, snow or shine). Our services are friendly and at times moving and always fulfilling. Below is an outline of how Rev. Robinson and the church community proceed each Sunday morning.
As you drive to KCC, there is ample parking on the corner of Robbins Road and Percival Avenue, just across the street from the meeting house.
At 9:45am Sunday morning the church bell rings out to summon the community. This is a tradition that dates back to 1712.
At 10am the Church bell rings once again and the proceeding begin with Reverend Olivia's "Welcome" and announcements - where member come forward to up-date the congregation on news, events and activities.
That is followed with a quiet time to center yourself while listening to a musical Prelude which may be a performance by the bell choir, The Ringtones or short piano performance of Bach, Beethoven, Schumann, Carl Tausig or Liszt - by our musical director Mr. Corbin Beisner.
At the conclusion of the Prelude, a traditional Congregational services begins with Responsive Call to Worship, a reading, the Sermons and closing prayer. The children leave for Sunday School after the children's sermon which is just before Reverend Olivia's sermon. Past sermons can be heard on the Services web page. It should also be noted that on the first Sunday of each month, communion is observed.
At the end of the service, Reverend Olivia presents the Benediction followed by the response - singing of Blessed be the tie that binds.
After you have had an opportunity to come to our services, you will afforded an opportunity to join as a full member - and membership has it privileges! Twice a year the Diaconate host, with Reverend Olivia, a membership meeting. This is an informal meeting between the new members, the deaconate and Rev Robinson. Lunch is provided with a short overview of church policies, history and committees - which you can join and serve. Once you have joined, you are presented to the congregation and welcomed into the church community.
