MISSIONS

Kensington Congregational Church is committed to aiding missions both locally and world-wide. Below is information about several of the missions we support.

Covenant to Care

Annual Back-Pack Drive and Easter Baskets

The Missions Committee hosts an annual back-to-school backpack drive and Easter basket drive for children involved in the New Britain DCF system. Backpack sign-ups usually occur during the summer months at coffee hour. Similarly, Easter basket sign-ups begin in spring approximately a month before Easter. Each year, our goal is to fill and deliver at least 20 backpacks and baskets. You will be supplied with the backpack itself and asked to fill it with suggested items from a list given each year. Easter baskets are up to your creative discretion.

Annual Giving Tree

Every December, in keeping with our covenant to help and provide for our area’s children and youth in need, the Missions Committee sponsors a Giving Tree which allows the congregation an opportunity to provide Christmas gifts to several area families.

Gifts are donated to children involved in the New Britain area DCF (Department of Children and Families). Every year our goal is to have gift donations for a minimum of 20 children for Christmas, as well as providing gifts for Berlin area children through the Berlin Social Services Department.

Sign-ups begin in November during Fellowship hour and continue until all tags have been taken

White Gift Service

December, 2026

The White Gift Service, a traditional Christmas Pageant, presented by the children and youth of Kensington Congregational Church. White Gifts will be collected for three local organizations.

Thanksgiving Food Drive

Together with our neighboring churches in the town of Berlin, we contribute to and help run the town's annual holiday food and gift drive. Last year, we provided the ingredients for over 200 meals to our neighbors in need.

Prudence Crandall

The Missions Committee provides on-going support and donations from pajamas to pillows and toiletries to area families affected by domestic violence.

El Salvador

In keeping with our covenant to support world-wide missions, we support our sister church, Pan de Vita, in Jayaque, El Salvador with their many needs such as their bakers and the education of 60 students from elementary school through college. This includes computer, supplies and tuition funds.
