MISSIONS

Kensington Congregational Church is committed to aiding missions both locally and world-wide. Below is information about several of the missions we support.

Family Promise

Kensington Congregational Church is a support congregation committed to the Family Promise program. Family Promise of Central Connecticut (FPCC) is a partnership between congregations, volunteers and agencies that helps families secure affordable housing. While in the program we provide meals and safe, homelike temporary housing where families can stay together.

A nondenominational nonprofit organization, FPCC is part of a national Family Promise network with over 4,500 congregations and 170,000 volunteers.

Covenant to Care

Annual Back-Pack Drive

The Missions Committee hosts an annual back-to-school backpack drive for children involved in the New Britain DCF system. Sign-ups usually occur during the summer months at coffee hour. Each year, our goal is to fill and deliver at least 20 backpacks. You will be supplied with the backpack itself and asked to fill it with suggested items from a list given each year.

Ideas for School Backpacks

All Ages: pens, pencils, erasers, glue, tape, scissors, colored pencils or markers, thermal lunch bags, folders to hold school papers, sealed snacks, juice boxes, useful gadgets (keychain, flashlights, etc.)
Younger children: pencil box, storybook, crayons, pencils, barrettes, flashlights
Teens: Wire bound notebooks, paperback book, journal or notebook, calculator. The Church sponsors a social worker from the New Britain area office. We provide the social worker with school supplies, emergency furniture and clothing when needed.

Annual Giving Tree

Every December, in keeping with our covenant to help and provide for our area’s children and youth in need, the Missions Committee sponsors a Giving Tree which allows the congregation an opportunity to provide Christmas gifts to several area families.

Gifts are donated to children involved in the New Britain area DCF (Department of Children and Families). Every year our goal is to have gift donations for a minimum of 20 children for Christmas.

Sign-ups begin in November during Fellowship hour and continue until all tags have been taken

White Gift Service

Holiday Giving

THANKSGIVING

Together with our neighboring churches in the town of Berlin, we contribute to and help run the town's annual holiday food and gift drive. Last year, we provided the ingredients for over 200 meals to our neighbors in need.
